Is the Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences (Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen), which became a kind of embryo collection at a later date stored in the Jakarta History Museum (MSJ). Association or the association was born in 1778 but only in the mid-19th century, they have a collection of data in the fields of ethnology, botany, pre-colonial history, and archeology.

From there later in the period between the years 1862 and 1868 the assembly had made the Central Museum, exactly Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen Koningsplein Museums in the West. Now the museum is famous by the name of the National Museum at Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta. National Museum Name Museums are often also called Elephant.

Special room everything about the Company and opened in 1905. Collection of various household objects from the 18th century became the main focus. But in the 1920s began to feel that space is too small. Because ultimately feels less storage space, then the association is to move their collection to the Museum of Batavia (Adolf Heuken, Historic Places in Jakarta) or the Museum of History of Batavia (Hans Bonke and Anne Handojo, From Stadhuis Up Museum). Former museum building is now the Museum Wayang.

Hans Bonke mention also another reason for moving was because Stichting Oud Batavia (Old Batavia Foundation) began to collect various objects related to Batavia. Then all collections associated with the Batavia was moved to a new building near the former Batavia City Hall (Museum Wayang). Collections that include painting, lithograph, furniture, books, and household goods made of silver.

Batavia Historical Museum opened on December 22, 1939 by Governor-General of the Netherlands last, AWML Tjarda van Starkenborgh Stachouwer. The building was often referred to as the former 18th-century Dutch church. The fact is not so. The building stands on the former church land.

1937 year old farm buildings in the Hollandse Nieuwe Kerk, or New Holland Church (1736) purchased by Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen then converted into Stedelijk Museum (van Batavia) or the City Museum (Batavia) or the Museum of History of Batavia. The contents of household furniture which was originally stored in the Museum Center.

Hollandse Nieuwe Kerk and then dismantled in 1808 when HW Daendels power. The church was hit by earthquake damage. In the church's cemetery several governors-general, including JP Coen, embedded. Vacant land former church was later built offices and warehouses, one of Geo Wehry & Co. which in 1912 Neo-Renaissance-style building and was elected to the museum.

Collections that have been collected since the mid-19th century and later moved to the Stedelijk Museum much missing. Especially in the Japanese. As a collection of watercolor paintings and carvings of the Old Batavia donated former mayor of Batavia, PR Feith.

Museum of History of Batavia (Batavia Historisch Museum) or the Museum of the City - then become the Jakarta Museum Lama - again had to move. This time from the current building to building became the Museum Wayang stadhuis or former city hall that was about less than three centuries old. Ali Sadikin was, the Governor of Jakarta at that time, a careful look at building ex stadhuis be restored and converted into a museum. So after ownership transferred from the Jakarta District Military Command 0503 to the regional governments, the building was soon renovated into a museum with the name of the Jakarta History Museum.
